Dimensions variable.  Paper clay.  Pit-fired. 2018.

Photo taken at Cookies Beach, Durras, Australia.

This was the first project I did when back in Australia after six months on exchange at the China Academy of Art.  I launched into a mode of not thinking when making, relying on the immediacy allowed by the material (paper clay) and the process (coiling, pinching and gas torching).

Looking back, I suppose I was relishing in the sense of freedom afforded by the vast Australian sky with flashbacks of the scholar stones from Southern Chinese gardens.
